The new Karats Jewelers flagship store in Overland Park, KS, isn’t just a showcase of luxury it’s also a model for environmental responsibility. As part of the site design, advanced water quality features were integrated to manage stormwater runoff and protect local waterways. A key component of this system is the ADS EcoPure Biofilter, a cutting-edge solution for green infrastructure.

What is the ADS EcoPure Biofilter?

The EcoPure Biofilter is an engineered bioretention system designed to remove pollutants from stormwater before it enters municipal systems or natural streams. It combines filtration media, vegetation, and underdrain technology to capture and treat runoff, reducing contaminants like:

  • Sediment

  • Nutrients (phosphorus, nitrogen)

  • Heavy metals

  • Hydrocarbons

    Benefits for the Karats Project:

  • Improved Water Quality: By filtering pollutants, the system helps maintain cleaner downstream water resources.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Meets local and state stormwater management requirements, supporting sustainable development goals.

  • Low Maintenance & Longevity: Designed for durability and easy upkeep, ensuring long-term performance.

  • Green Infrastructure Appeal: Adds ecological value and aligns with modern sustainability practices, enhancing the site’s environmental footprint.

The ADS EcoPure Biofilter demonstrates how luxury retail spaces can integrate smart environmental solutions, creating a balance between elegance and ecological responsibility.
